Workshop on basic level is aimed at people who never had any contact with suturing. During our course you will have a chance to familiarise yourself with surgical instruments, and of course, you will be able to master skin suturing using basic sutures. The advanced level workshop is for people who have basic skills in suturing. During this course you will go through simple plastic surgery procedures.

Description: The examination of the structure of the human eye is an important part of general physical examination, often overlooked by non-ophthalmologists. During our workshop we would like to present you basic skills, which can be helpful to doctors of all specialties in everyday routine as well as in the case of emergency. The activities that we’ll focus on are:
• examination of an anterior segment of the eye (slit lamp)
• examination of a posterior segment of the eye (ophthalmoscope)
• examination of a visual acuity and central vision efficiency (Snellen’s and Amsler’s charts)

Description: The active participants of the shortly upcoming event are already in game. However we wish to attract a massive audience and passive participants to attend the congress, who whenever they wish, can take part in workshops organised by the Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Department Medical University of Warsaw. We would like to take care of You during the simulation of the operating theatre. Specifically we offer the review of the sewing tendons & vessels technique followed by the revision of possible methods to suture the wound. Afterwards with the usage of animal models and prepared sets, you will be practicing your personal skills. Everything will take place under the watchful eye of the Doctor specializing in hand surgery. We provide the necessary equipment and models. The basics of sewing are essential in every specialization, which is why we invite willing students and interns, regardless of their future medical speciality.

Description: As a part of the workshop, participants can expect many practical skills to work on. In the three rooms of the Medical Simulation Center workshops will take place in the form of rotation between rooms. In a high-fidelity room with phantoms that highly replicate clinical symptoms, participants will take on the role of emergency physicians facing cardiac emergencies in prepared scenarios, which participants will have to analyze from a diagnostic standpoint and implement appropriate therapeutic management. The scenarios, together with the airway trainer prepared for you, are an important part of advanced life support procedures that you will have a chance to practice. In addition, we have prepared an ultrasound trainer and echocardiography workshops, which are important diagnostic skills in various cardiac and general medical conditions. You will learn projections and how to identify cardiac structures on echocardiographic imaging.
ERC Guidelines for Resuscitation will be provided for participants prior to the workshop via email, we highly encourage you to review and use them during the workshops.

Ultrasound of carotid artery in surgical practice

Description: Ultrasound (and doppler ultrasound) of carotid arteries is performed to check presence of atherosclerotic plaques, which may decrease blood flow in our brain or cause stroke/TIA associated with its detachment.
The main therapeutic indications to an endarterectomy:
Symptomatic patients with >70% narrowing
Symptomatic patients with 50-70% narrowing should be considered individually.
During the workshops will be short theoretical introduction (e.g. how to measure blood flow in arteries) by our experienced physician, which specializes in ultrasonography. Next, the participants will be able to do an ultrasound on your own on our model.

Vulvoscopy and colposcopy workshop

Description: Vulvoscopy and colposcopy are procedures to visualize the vulva, vagina and cervix, performed with a special instrument called a colposcope. It is dedicated for patients with vulvar, vaginal and cervical dysplasia. Colposcopic view after special reagents indicate suspicious regions for biopsy.
The aim of our workshop is to present the techniques of these examinations as they offer a closer look at the changed cells, which might help in cancer diagnosis.
The workshops will be divided into three parts:
- Presentation about vulvoscopy and colposcopy
- Performing the gynecological examination on the phantoms
- Performing biopsy taking and suturing.

From admission to writing orders – how to properly manage the pediatric patient

Clinical nutrition as a way of treatment support

Description: Malnutrition is one of the biggest problems of hospitalised patients. About a third of them are already malnourished coming to the hospital, while being there things only get worse. It is estimated that 50% of patients leaving the hospital show symptoms of malnutrition. There are a few factors determining this problem, one of them being lack of knowledge of the medical staff. The workshop is to present the types and symptoms of malnutrition, methods of clinical nutritional intervention (e.g. enteral and parenteral nutrition) with emphasis on patients that are in a group of high risk of malnutrition. It will also include the presentation of different equipment used in enteral and parenteral nutrition as well as the possibility of tasting the commercial diets used in the clinical nutritional intervention.
Plan of the workshop:
- Theoretical presentation including the definition and types of malnutrition, types of clinical nutrition intervention, groups of patients of high risk of malnutrition and clinical cases
- Presentation of the equipment of enteral and parenteral nutrition (PEGs, tubes, pomps, bags, syringes and catheters used in clinical nutrition)
- Commercial clinical diets tasting

Labour – anatomy, physiology and management

Description: Labour is the process whereby the fetus and placenta are expelled from the uterus, which normally ocours between 38 and 42’ weeks gestation. It is divided into stages. In the first stage , the cervix opens to full dilatation to allow the head to pass through. The second stagge is from full dilatation to delivery of the fetus. The third stage lasts from delivery of the fetus to delivery of the placenta.
Theoretical part of the workshop will focus on revision of knowledge regarding anatomy and physiology of the labour.
During the practical part we will try to explain the second stage of the labour using models. All participants will have a chance to try to deliver the baby themselves.

- Presentation about mechanism – anatomy, physiology and menagement of the labour .
- Presenting process of the delivery on models.
- Perfororming the management of labour by participants on models.
